Ludwig Ganghofer, a famous German novelist described Berchtesgaden as "He whom God loves, He drops into this land!" Many travel literature described Berchtesgaden as "a masterpiece of nature, a festival of sights and sounds" with stunning mountain panoramas in the German Alps and famed for its National Park where Königssee, "the king's lake" lies. Not
far away, the Kehlsteinhaus is a birthday gift to Hitler at his 50th
birthday. It was the only building that resisted the American air raid
in 1945. A windy road leads up to Eagle's Nest where entrances to the
few still available bunkers are situated, developed between 1943 and
1945. On clear days, the view is superb. Unfortunately, the Eagle's Nest is closed from November to May so I didn't get to see it. I just walked around Berchtesgaden where you can see the Watzmann Mountain. |

Berchtesgaden did not have much appeal for me. The train ride there, however, was nice.
