Tegernsee

As Autumn is drawing to a close, I was very happy when it was sunny with perfect blue sky on the second Sunday I was in Munich.

We were also very fortunate to have the company of German Tim Baack - a perfect company with his British English.

Tim is very knowledgeable, there was never a dull moment. And of course, he was very lucky to have us girls for company on a bright sunny day.

Tagernsee is about 90 minutes' drive south. With the winter approaching, many Germans share our sentiment for a road trip so we were caught in some traffic on the way to the lake.

The Tegernsee, lying in the foothills of the alps, is 6km long and 1.5km wide at its widest point. It was created like most bavarian lakes after the last ice age.

The very varied countryside, the quaint "Alpenland" atmosphere and the well developed tourist villages around the lake have made this area a well loved recreation area for German and foreign visitors. Especially attractive are the numerous mineral springs and the famous health resorts, large selection of cafés and restaurants, as well as the "Wallbergbahn" and the casino at Bad Wiessee. It's no wonder Tagernsee is one of the richest place in Bavaria!

The quality of the water in this lake so close to the mountains is very good, making Tegernsee one of Bavaria's cleanest lakes. Watersports such as sailing and surfing is very popular here. As winter is approaching, we saw many sailboat owners hulling up their sailboats, clean and tow away for storage during the winter months.

The walk around Tagernsee is very pleasant as we came across narrow roads with old chapels and homes with ornate gardens like this one which had a crawling plant of heart-shaped leaves.

Germans are big meat eaters. Speciality being sausages, that it is being featured in advertisement! I thought this is very neat!

The headline says "Munich lies now between Sweden!"
